Playroom Progress

Projects are nonstop around here. Some are really fun. Others, not so much.

The playroom has been one of the really fun projects for me. Grant is amazing at making my ideas come to life. First off, when we decided to transform the room, we had no idea what to do with the table. It wasn't long before I said the line I use every time something clicks inside my head. It always starts out like this, "Pookie! I have an idea! What do you think about _________?" He'll run with my ideas most of the time, ha-ha.

So... The table. Grant decided to make interchangeable legs for the table so that one day when they grow out of it, we'd still have use for the table. No permanent changes. Great, but where would they sit? I was browsing online stores for little wooden chairs, and one word came to mind: Expensive! We were looking at $80-100 just to have 4 small chairs. There must be a cheaper, more creative way to have chairs. I started thinking about simple "step-stool" type seats (no backing), but somehow went from one idea to a similar idea: benches. A HomeDepot run was in order.

We went to the clearance section for wood in the back of the store, purchased what we needed, and to no surprise (he can build just about anything) our handyman built the perfect little benches for a total of $2 a piece! I wanted a specific design for bookshelves. He made it happen. I saw something online with ABC Wooden letters that I really liked. He jumped on board. They aren't complete (final product will come later), but we both went to cutting. It was my first time using a jigsaw, and I really enjoyed it. I felt tough. I felt creative, ha-ha. I must say Grant was a lot quicker than me, which really means he cut out most of the letters. It must be a man thing.

Anyways, the letters are all cut out, but sanding and painting are next. It's a timely project, but I'm pretty excited about it. They look great, and it beats purchasing a set for $50-60.

The chair rails and toy boxes you see in the pictures were also done by the handyman of the house. He doesn't give himself enough credit, but I think he's amazing at everything, including all the woodwork he's done lately. I'm impressed.

The Boys Dedication - A Lifetime Commitment

A baby dedication isn't just a nice ceremony, but a lifetime commitment to God; to do everything in our power to raise our children according to God's Word and God's ways, all the days of our lives. On August 18, we finally made that commitment in front of God, our family and the church. We are so thankful for Pastor Alan, who performed the ceremony, and all of the family who came to celebrate our decision. We are beyond blessed to have the family we do. It was extra special to share that moment with Kevin and Jodi, who also made that same commitment.

And she (Hannah) made a vow, saying, "O LORD Almighty, if you will only look upon your servant's misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head." 1 Samuel 1:11 (NIV)
When God answered Hannah's prayer by giving her a son, she remembered her vow:
"As surely as you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the LORD. I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD." And he worshiped the LORD there. 1 Samuel 1:26-28 (NIV)

Sucker Stealer

Parker had a lollipop while we were in Target, but after a few licks he put it down. He didn't like it obviously. I put Reid in the stroller as we ran to the restrooms. I was helping Parker and turn around to see that Reid had Parker's lollipop in his mouth. It was his first lollipop, and he seemed pretty happy about it too.

Storytime at the Library!

We haven't been to story-time in a while. Parker hardly lets us read to him before he's grabbing the book out of our hands. HE wants to be the "reader". I went anyways, and to my surprise he really enjoyed it. It was a new face, a new voice and what seemed like a hundred kids. I'm sure we'll do it again.
